Karan Johar’s directorial comeback, “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani” (RRKPK), starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, made an impressive mark as the fifth highest opener among Hindi films in 2023, garnering approximately Rs 12 crore nett on its opening day in theaters, according to trade reports released on Saturday.
Despite its strong performance, the romantic drama fell short of the Day 1 collections of other blockbusters such as Prabhas-starrer “Adipurush” (Rs 86 crore nett), Shah Rukh Khan’s “Pathaan” (Rs 57 crore nett), Salman Khan’s “Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan” (Rs 15.81 crore nett), and Ranbir Kapoor’s “Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar” (Rs 15.73 crore). The film faces tough competition at the box office from the highly anticipated Hollywood releases of the previous week, namely Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” and Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer.”
“RRKPK” boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, Jaya Bachchan, Churni Ganguly, and Tota Roy Choudhury, all of whom play significant roles in the film.
